MAXWELL PLACE
MAXWELL PLACE
Maxwell Place was an exhibition I created that was displayed in the Clara M. Eagle gallery at Murray State University. This show consisted of eight 15 x 21 inch screen prints as well as an installation piece featuring two fabric screen prints.
My Process
All of these pieces were made using photos from my childhood. I start by editing my scanned images in photoshop, adjusting the colors to fit the tone of my piece. Then I began color blocking and manipulating the backgrounds to make my pieces best fit my theme. At this point in the process I also begin to think about the layout of my text and how I want it to frame my subjects.
Once Iām happy with the layout of the pieces I separate all my stencils by splitting the color channels and creating CMYK halftones. I use a large scale printer to print my stencils and use oil to make them transparent for exposure. Once my screens are exposed I use the CMYK process to print my images, adding color blocking, textural layers, varnish, and puff ink to give my pieces depth and a nostalgic, homey feel.
